CHAPTER FIVE

The next few days went by in a whirlwind. Marc and the house staff took care of everything, while Raven played the role of a grieving widow. She vowed to personally thank as many people as she could who had shown her condolences. Raven felt that was the least she could do under the circumstances.

The day of Pierce's funeral had finally arrived. Eyeing herself in the full length mirror, Raven fastened the last button at the top of her black designer knee length dress suit. Her hand touched the one hundred and ten carat necklace that was a gift from Pierce. It was one of many gifts he would give her after she discovered each one of his affairs. She wore it in his memory and a reminder of why she killed him in the first place.

Raven removed the eye drops from the medicine cabinet and put several in each one of her eyes. It would help her with the tears. She decided to slip the small bottle in her clutch just in case she needed it. She blinked her eyes a few times to clear her vision before placing her Dolce & Gabanna black shades on. The black hat with the veil finished her ensemble.

Satisfied that she looked her part, Raven slowly walked down the stairs. Some of Pierce's family and close friends were waiting for her at the bottom of the stairway.

Margie, Pierce's younger sister, dressed in a tight black dress, was the first to say something. "Raven, I was just about to come get you. If we don't leave now, we're going to be late."

Margie's husband, Evan placed his arm around Margie. "She's here now, that's all that matters."

Margie mumbled something. Raven rolled her eyes. She was not in the mood to deal with her foolishness. Margie never liked her and truth be told, Raven never liked her. She always thought Margie was a leech and hated how Pierce would generously deposit thousands of dollars to Margie's bank account every month. Margie better hope that Pierce left her something in his will, because Raven had no intentions of keeping up Pierce's habit.

Instead of riding in the funeral home limousine like his family, Raven chose to ride in the limousine her and Pierce owned. "Marc, I would like for you to ride with me," Raven said, as she reached out for his hand.

Marc did as was told. Some of Pierce's other family members seemed a little put off by it, but she didn't care. They could all ride in the other limousines. They never liked her when Pierce was living so there was no need for them to pretend now. The only reason why she allowed them to stay at their estate was because she knew it was the right thing to do; otherwise, she could have made them all spend their own money and stay at a nearby hotel.

Raven held Marc's hand as if she needed it for comfort the entire ride to the funeral home. Raven opted not to have it at the church due to how he was killed.
